Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide allows patients to remain awake and able to communicate. This medication is inhaled through the nose and mouth. While it tends to lessen anxiety, it also increases pain threshold, reduces gag reflex and makes time pass more quickly.
Oral Sedation
Your dentist can prescribe oral sedatives in liquid or pill form. This medication is taken orally before a dental appointment. You will be awake for the procedure, but oral sedatives have a significant calming effect.
