What is a Dental Emergency?

We understand that emergencies can happen at any time. We are here to help.

Not sure if you are experiencing a dental emergency? These are common dental emergencies that our dentists should treat as soon as possible.

  • Lost Fillings or Crowns

Attempt to identify and find any lost or broken fillings or crowns. Rinse and try to place it back on your tooth. Call our office as soon as possible to arrange an appointment to have it repaired.

  • Chipped or Broken Teeth

Is your tooth chipped or broken? If you are able to find the missing tooth, place it in a clean container and bring it to your appointment. Your dentist may be able to reattach it. Whether you find the piece or not, ensure you phone our office right away to have it fixed.

  • Knocked-Out Teeth

If you find your knocked-out tooth, rinse it and hold it by the crown - not the roots. Once you re-insert it into your tooth socket, gently bite down when it is in place. Do your best to keep it moist by putting it in a glass of milk or holding it in your mouth until you arrive at our office.

Take an over-the-counter pain medication, but do not take aspirin if you are bleeding. Put a cold compress against your cheek in the area of your fractured tooth to help reduce pain and swelling.

Ensure you get to one of our offices as possible. If you are able, call ahead. The sooner you can be treated after your tooth has been knocked out, the better the change your dentist has of saving it.

  • Severe Swelling, Pain or Discomfort

Have you noticed your mouth, neck or face areas have suddenly started to swell moderately to severely? Are you experiencing severe pain or discomfort in or around your mouth?

As soon as possible, call us and follow these steps to alleviate pain in the meantime:

    1. Apply a cold compress to your cheek, on the area where you are feeling pain.

    2. Take an over-the-counter pain medication.

    3. Use salt water to flush the area that is in pain. This will help remove any debris that could be causing the toothache.

To diagnose the cause and plan quick, effective and efficient treatment, our dentist should see the condition or swelling.
